The 12th International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge
The International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge (ISMAR) is the premier international event on MAR research and practice, held every 3 or 4 years under the auspices of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
ISMAR 12 will be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa from 28 April to 2 May 2025. This symposium will open the doors of opportunity to the rest of the world’s MAR experts and academics to come to South Africa, showcase their specialities, and form the African connections that can provide their companies and institutions with their next international MAR partnership to facilitate new projects and studies, this time in Africa.
The symposium will be attended by national and international regulators, researchers and practitioners in all facets of MAR, including hydrogeology, geochemistry, microbiology, modeling, economics, and water resources management.
For South Africans and the rest of Africa, this is our opportunity to form the connections that will help us push this technology forward and become more sustainable and safe in our groundwater practices, without having to pay for the expensive lessons learned over the last 60 years of international MAR development.
We are inviting the people who learned those lessons and figured out the solutions to come and play a role in this continent’s sustainable groundwater development through MAR.
